Morepen launches ‘Lifelyte’ A ready to drink Oral Rehydrate
New Delhi, May 17, 2002

Morepen has launched Lifelyte - ‘The ready to drink, sterile electrolyte Rehydrate’. Morepen is the first Indian company to launch ORS solution in a convenient, ready to drink formulation recommended by WHO. This gives Morepen an entry to Rs.50 crores ORS market that is growing at 5% annually.

Ready to drink Lifelyte obviates the hassles of dissolving powders in boiled and then cooled water. Lifelyte, a totally germ free ORS counteracts the risk of contamination that may occur during preparation of solution that would result in further aggravating the condition of a patient. This life saving solution replenishes electrolytes and water lost due to diarrhea, vomiting and heat exhaustion. Dextrose present in Lifelyte provides energy and helps absorption of vital salts and water through the intestine. It is life saving for people like salesmen, construction and industrial workers and sportsmen who are exposed to heat and sun in hot summer months, more so in a tropical country like India. Lifelyte is easily available across the country at chemists and department stores. Priced at Rs. 35, Lifelyte is available in a 540ml bottle that is sterilized at 110 degrees by specialized technology.

1 % of the MRP from Lifelyte sales will go towards the 3H cause. 3H stands for help, healing and happiness – an initiative to facilitate patient care in the country. 3H 1066, the first effort of 3H initiative promotes a single emergency number across the country, which beckons medical help at the doorstep in minimum possible time. This service is fully operational in Hyderabad and Chennai & will soon be available across Delhi too, spreading further to other cities in the country.

3H aims at making patients medical journey a pleasurable one. The action points initially would be Hospitals, Nursing homes, doctor’s clinics where 3H would adopt reception areas, hospital wards, OPDs for their upkeep and cleanliness and also provide direction indicators / Signage’s at vantage points thus facilitating the patient’s quest in the intimidating hospital maze.

The 3H Infolets would provide patients more information on various diseases, cures and other valuable information on varied subjects like medical insurance etc. These would be available as ‘take – aways’ in waiting areas of hospitals, clinics, chemist shops and other strategically placed info-vends. A 3H Mobile clinic will soon be launched in the city for actually restoring patient’s health at Home. Many more initiatives have been planned under 3H banner for helping healing and ultimately leading to health and happiness of the patient.

In India Diarrhea remains the main cause of infant mortality, accounting for over 6,00,000 children under five succumbing to this deadly disease every year. Diarrhea is a self-limiting problem and the immediate requirement is to rehydrate the patient. ORS does not stop the diarrhea, but it replaces the lost fluids and essential minerals. The glucose contained in ORS solution enables the intestine to absorb the fluid and the salts more efficiently. ORS alone is an effective treatment for 90-95 per cent of patients suffering from acute watery diarrhea, regardless of cause.
